FORCE
Force mindmap
This is a mind map I made on pinterest. It shows my initial responses to the theme, force. Most of the pictures i chose symbolise the physical aspect of force, for example, when there is a string tied around someones face or when a drink can was squeezed. It also includes pictures that represent the force of nature, such as the apple and the kiwi rotting or the tornado near the little red house.
Force (first response)
This was my first response to force, I mainly focused on force of nature and naturally occurring incidents (e.g. skull, bone, fire). Some lovely photos here- well done.
Force of nature
For this task, I had to take pictures that linked into the theme of 'force'. The intentions of this task was to ink the photographs to the theme of 'Force' These photos relate to the theme of 'Force' because they are focusing on rust which is an aspect of the force of nature. For my second attempt at force I focused more on the force of objects, mainly the rust on objects. With this second attempt I have more zoomed in pictures. Most of the pictures have been taken on a low aperture, this is so it can blur out the background. The blurred background was done well so that the object in the foreground is more highlighted. Some of the pictures could have been taken at better angles to make them more interesting.

Shirin Neshat
Shirin Neshat, born March 26, 1957, is an Iranian visual artist who lives in New York City, known primarily for her work in film, video and photography. Neshat is the fourth of five children of wealthy parents. Neshat’s father encouraged each of his daughters to "be an individual, to take risks, to learn, to see the world", and he sent his daughters as well as his sons to college to receive their higher education.
Shirin Neshat is considering religion and culture in her work. She does this by the adding Arabic writing on people’s body parts. She wanted us to explore the contrast between religion, politics, violence and feminism. Shirin Neshat is considering many things in her work, including war, religion and gender. This is shown by the gun she is holding, the Arabic writing on peoples body parts and the people being photographed are mainly women. Shirin Neshat was particularly drawn to this issue because she lived it. She grew up in Iran in a muslim family, after she left Iran to go and live in America she decided to visit her home country and found out that a big change occurred in the time that she was missing. She quotes, ‘The difference between what I had remembered from the Iranian culture and what I was witnessing was enormous. ‘The change was both frightening and exciting; I had never been in a country that was so ideologically based. Most noticeable, of course, was the change in people's physical appearance and public behaviors’. Shirin Neshat used the black and white contrast in her pictures. This was to reflect the contrast of the meaning of the pictures. This helps support her thoughts that her artwork centres on the contrasts between Islam and the West, femininity and masculinity, public life and private life, antiquity and modernity, and bridging the spaces between these subjects.

Nadav Kander
Nadav Kander born December 1, 1906. Kander was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He is a London-based photographer, artist and director, known for his portraiture and landscapes. He received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society in 2015, won the Prix Pictet and a World Press Photo award; and his work is included in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, the Société Générale, Paris, Pictet & Cie’s Art Collection and other museums and galleries.
Kender intended to present a series of unanswered questions in his series, 'Dust'. He did this by photographing empty, destroyed rooms where people used to live in. he wanted us to respond our own ways and tell our own stories. Kander is considering the nuclear explosion in Chernobly in 1986, leaving 40,000 people homeless. The still decorated rooms show the panicked evacuation of the city. Kander used empty, decayed rooms in creating his work. This leaves a sense of emptiness, waste of land and peoples panic. This helps show his point about having to rush out of the city and leave their beloved homes.

Plastic bags and glaciers.
For this task we had to try and make plastic bags look like glaciers. To get the best outcome I got a completely white plastic bag. To make it look more like a glacier I took the picture from inside the plastic bag so there wouldn’t be any background. These were my attempts. I mimicked the work of Francois Delfosse.
Francois Delfosse's work.
Applied Force
For this task I captured balloons bursting. To get the best picture I had my settings on 400 ISO and 1/500 shutter speed. I also had my camera setting on burst to make sure I wouldn’t miss the balloon’s pop.
The success criteria was to capture was to the balloon as soon as it burst so it still maintained the shape of the balloon.
WWW: The shutter speed and ISO went well so the pictures were bright enough but the pictures were not blurry.
EBI: If I zoomed into the balloon more.
I could develop this further by having a background without people. I could also improve by taking more pictures.

All of the explosions
My two best examples.
Force of Movement
The task was to take pictures of people's movements throughout their run.
The intention of the task was to have a high shutter speed to take lots of pictures of the persons running, the high shutter speed helped so the pictures were not blurry and I could take lots of pictures throughout their run.
This relates to the theme of force because this is the Force of Movement.
WWW: I met the success criteria by having the camera still.
EBI: The object’s face is difficult to see so I could have of positioned myself in a better position so the sun would have shined on the model’s face to see him more clearly.

Applied Force
The task was to apply force on an object and photograph the results. The intention of the task were to apply force of some sort to an object and photograph the visual difference, I squashes a can of beer and photographed it after to show the dents and how it bent.
This relates to the theme of force because I was applying force on a can of beer.
The success criteria was to photograph the object before and after a force was applied on it.
How well did you meet the success criteria of the task? WWW: The shutter speed and ISO matched the condition of the weather.
EBI: pick a better background. Make sure the pictures are straight.

1st Strand
The subject I chose to photograph suited the theme of ‘Force’ as it is the force of movement. People use force to make their muscles to move which allows people to move.
My composition helped to support my response to the theme by photographing people doing cartwheels, running and rolling on the floor to show the force of movement.
I managed the exposure very well. My ISO was low as it was a sunny day and my shutter speed was high so there was no blur in the pictures. I prioritised my shutter speed to make sure that the pictures were not blurry. I used a tripod to avoid camera shake.
My images express my intentions which were to show people moving to show the force in their muscles.
Next time I should have different kinds of movement for some variation.
Next time I get the models to do different tasks. I will also experiment further with blur.

Second Strand
Subject matter
The subject I chose to photograph suited the theme as it is ‘chemical force’. My composition helped to support my response to the theme by getting food colouring and dropping it into water and photographing how it dissolves in water. Technique
I managed the exposure very well. My ISO was low as it was a sunny day. My shutter speed was 1/640 .My aperture settings were f/4.I prioritised my shutter speed to capture movement and freeze the moment. I prioritised aperture to manipulate depth of field to make the background blurry.I placed my camera on the table to avoid camera shake. Idea
My images express my intentions which were to capture the ink dissolving into the water.
EBI:I didn’t choose this strand as my final piece because it wasn’t interesting enough as I feel is quite repetitive and hard to improve on.

Third strand
The subject I chose to photograph suited the theme as it shows the theme of ‘Force’ as it shows the force of humankind. This is the opposite of from the force of nature as it I photographed man-made structures and the impact on the environment. This links to ‘Force’ as it takes physical force to build a building.
My composition helped to support my response to the theme by showing great buildings and structures that stand out.
I managed the exposure very well. My ISO settings were low as it was a bright day when I took most of the pictures.
My images express my intentions, which were to show the impact that humans have on earth and to show the creations we are able to create.
The subject I chose to photograph did not necessarily fit the brief some of the photos I have photographed multiple buildings in one photo
Next time I should go to a different location to try find some different styles of buildings.
I did not create enough depth of field because not many of the pictures I took were from close-up.
Next time I will consider taking photos from different angles and I will try to take pictures of different types of buildings.

Chosen Strand
I zoomed into the image leaving one single pattern.
I took these pictures and then edited just the building in black and white for a more dramatic effect but I also left the background the same colour. I have also straightened the building.

Born in Geneva in 1974, she started photographing at the young age of 12. She liked to challenge the ideas around “being” vs “appearing to be”. Her quest to define the place of humans in contemporary society and in relation to each other.
She wrote: “My approach is based on appropriation, reconstruction and the simplification of reality".
She has influenced my work.

This was my first try.
I like how you can still see the structure of the building. don't gorget to screen grab the process.
First, select the building you want to fill in. after carefully selecting it, right quick and press fill, pick a colour and finally press ok.

Simon Phipps
Experienced commercial photographer based in Clerkenwell central London, Simon Phipps has spent the last 15 years photographing architecture. His work is mostly themed modernist and brutalist architecture. In his recent work , 'BÉTON BRUT' Simon Phipps challenges the preconceptions on 'brutalist buildings' wether you love them or hate them.
This links into force as it shows the force of architecture. This photograph was highly influential in my work.

My first try at colouring the background.
How I edited my pictures
1)Select background
2) Right click >fill
3) Pick a colour and press ok

After several attempts, I realised that it works best when the colour of the background reflected a colour that is in the picture.

FINAL PIECE

This is because I photographed man-made structures and the impact on the environment. This links to ‘Force’ as it takes physical force to build a building.
My composition helped to support my response to the theme as all of my final pieces have a coloured background. The colour of the background suits and matches with the colours in the picture. This is to make the viewer also concentrate on the background as well as the main point of focus which is the building.
My images express my intentions, which were to show the impact that humans have on earth and to show the creations we are able to create. This contrasts with the force of nature as it is the opposite theme.

To improve I could double the amount of pictures for my final piece.
During the form project I have managed my time well. I managed to go near central London and edit my pictures before the deadline.
I have used the work of other photographers to inform my development. I found interesting buildings to photograph. My photoshop skills have improved. I have found that I became quicker and more efficient at editing my photos. I controlled my camera my camera to achieve a good contrast between the sky and the building. My weebly shows the development of my idea.
To improve my final piece I will take more pictures.
